[413] William Curtis born in England about 1611. He came to America in 1631 on the first voyage of the ship Lion and landed at Boston, Mass. He bore arms at Scituate, Mass., in 1632, and spent the remainder of his life in that town. His farm was on the North River, next south of the Wanton Farm. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church at Scituate, Mass. In 1643 he lived in that part of Scituate from which Hanover, Mass., was taken. The name of his wife has not been found.

[321] John Darling married when he was twenty four, and shortly after took a farm up the road a short distance from Phillips. He was the first of the brothers to be affected by the western fever, and started for Wisconsin as early as 1851. He lived to be the oldest of the family, dying in 1894, at the ripe age of 84 years. All of his children, except the youngest, were born in Avon.
