[4] Josiah left home at an early age and came to Maine. He was a "limerick" in 1793 when he bought property in "Washington", Maine. By the next year he was a trader in Newfield Village where he acquired more property, including interest in several mills. In 1840 his house and store were sold to Mark Wood. His family moved away from Newfield. Some of Josiah and Nacy Doe Towle's descendants are buried in Mt. Hope cemetery Bangor, Maine, so they may have gone from Newfield to the Bangor, Maine area.
